Dr. Samuel Gurr joined the College of Agricultural Science, Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Science & Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station as an Assistant Professor in August 2025. Gurr is an integrative organismal biologist and offers a diverse research history spanning molecular-to-organismal scale. Gurr’s focus on aquaculture models supports the efficacy of phenomics to forecast production and employs functional genomics to understand the molecular machinery underpinning cellular and organismal processes between wild populations and selectively bred genotypes. A pillar of Gurr’s research is on early reprogramming in molluscs, or hormesis, to bolster tolerance to uncertain subsequent environments. Gurr earned a Ph.D. in Biological and Environmental Sciences from University of Rhode Island in 2021 and M.S. in Marine Science from Stony Brook University in 2017.
