State Fisheries Genomics

Housed within the Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station, Kathleen O'Malley's work as the State Fisheries Geneticist is a jointly-funded position between the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Oregon State University. Kathleen's lab focuses on research that will be of use both to the scientific and management communities, and concentrates on species of ecological, evolutionary, and economic importance.

Research areas include reintroduction of threatened spring Chinook salmon, population connectivity in the marine environment, genetic basis of migration timing, fitness differences between hatchery and wild salmon, adaptation to changing climate, and species or sex identification.
